Yoga for Kids
Ages 7–13
Yoga helps increase self-esteem, concentration, physical & emotional equilibrium, and an overall sense of well-being. Kids learn postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and relaxation in a fun, age-appropriate setting. Betsy Ceva has taught movement to all ages since 1970.
The Birchwood Center approach to Yoga for Kids does not stop at asana practice. Incorporated into the classes are creative, enjoyable exercises that work to develop the whole child:
- Talking stick games where kids learn to listen to each other without interrupting and also have an opportunity to speak and be heard.
- Fun movement games increase listening skills, concentration and the ability to collaborate or work as a team.
- Meditation on sound, counting breaths, breathing and more.
- Meditative journeys utilizing crystals during the 10-minute savasana at the end of each class.
"Yoga for Kids isn’t just an exercise, it's really fun, and at the end of class we have a meditation session which gets you to relax. The teacher is fun and nice -- she has a great sense of humor and can relate to kids. She gets you to try something new, and you'll never regret what you try."
