Aspiring Yoga Teachers Gain Certification at Birchwood Center
A Unique Teacher Training Program to Begin Again in September 2005
Nyack, NY (May, 2005) -- With the growing interest and respect for yoga that has swept the country, more and more people are turning to this ancient practice for mental relaxation and physical well being. In addition, the practice of yoga has encouraged many to aspire to become yoga teachers, and one unique teacher-training program can be found at Birchwood Center in Nyack, New York, a beautiful, fully equipped yoga studio and quiet sanctuary for healing massage.
Birchwood Center began offering their Level I Yoga Teacher Training program in 2002. We will begin our fourth nine month training program this September. This intense nine-month program, approved by the Yoga Alliance, is designed for aspiring teachers and those who wish to deepen their yoga practice. The program includes over 200 hours of lecture and experiential instruction. Upon graduation of this program, students will receive a 200-hour certification and be prepared to teach a basic Level I Yoga class.
"While there are other places where yoga students can work toward becoming teachers, our program was developed with the full understanding of yoga in mind," says Betsy Ceva, director of Birchwood Center. "We believe that successful yoga teachers should have an in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and asana technique, but also should have a grasp of yoga philosophy and knowledge of yoga as a spiritual practice. We want to provide a program where aspiring teachers learn how to teach and practice yoga safely so that they and their students and can stay healthy and happy."
Birchwood Center Level I Yoga Teacher Training, aims to produce quality yoga instructors who are creative in their teaching and committed to the practice and understanding of yoga as a way of life. Individuals who successfully fulfill the requirements of the Birchwood Center Level I Teacher Training course will have received intensive training in Asana, Pranayama, Meditation, Kriyas, Mantra, Relaxation, the History of Yoga, Ethics, Yoga Philosophy including the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Bhagavad-Gita and the Tree Of Samkhya, Teaching Methodology, Anatomy & Physiology, Anatomy of the Chakras, the Business of Yoga, and Practice Teaching.
