Yoga Classes

Hatha Yoga tones, strengthens and stretches the body, focusing on conscious breathing while in the postures. Hatha Yoga teaches the fundamentals of yoga practice and is offered at Levels I, I/II, II, and III. Level I is for beginning students, those new to Yoga and anyone who chooses to work slowly with a focus on learning the basics. Level I/II classes are designed for students with some Yoga experience but also welcomes beginners. Levels II and III challenge students to approach more difficult postures and advanced practices.

Moving Mantras Developed by Betsy Ceva, Moving Mantras merge movement and meditation with the power of word. It is an embodied formula of moving symbolism, using shape, imagery, movement patterns and repetition to chant with the entire body and the mind.

Vinyasa Yoga is a flowing, invigorating style of yoga working with the breath to integrate body, mind and spirit into an energetic whole.

Restorative is based on a yin style of yoga that uses deep stretching of the connective tissue to deepen your practice, relax your body and still your mind. This practice modifies traditional yoga postures using various props (all provided) to support the body in deeply comfortable and relaxing ways. You will sleep better and move easier after this class.

Early Risers Imagine starting your day with a clear mind, even breath, and balanced body. Practicing yoga in the early morning while the mind is clear can assist you in putting mundane issues into perspective and staying calm and grounded throughout your day. Early Riser Yoga sets the tone for a peaceful day.

Prenatal

All stages of pregnancy welcome. A gentle Hatha-based yoga class to offer a supportive environment in which to center and calm the mind, strengthen the key muscle groups, and connect with your baby and the innate wisdom of your own body. Come join in this fun way to develop flexibility, coordination, concentration, and strength to prepare you for birth. Designed for all stages of pregnancy.

Powerflow The class embraces the flow of vinyasa with strong combinations of asanas designed to develop endurance and strength as well as flexibility and grace. The class emphasizes proper alignment and attunement to the breath as well as the spiritual and philosophical aspects of the yoga practice all interwoven to provide a physically challenging, yet deeply satisfying experience.

Restorative Yoga & Meditation Workshop Restorative Yoga is a gentle, meditative practice that uses supported asanas and slow deep breathing to revitalize and restore energy by modifying traditional yoga postures with various props to support the body in deeply comfortable and relaxing ways. Appropriate for students of all ages, sizes and experience, and beneficial for those needing a more gentle approach to yoga, students healing from injury, and anyone looking to soften the body or balance an active Yoga practice.

Meditation is a simple tool for calming and de-stressing body and mind. Taking a few minutes to meditate each day, we can feel the current of oneness that connects us to nature. In this state we discover that we are more than our thoughts and restless body; we are the light that shines through all things. Focusing on the natural mantra of breath, we come into the present moment and the edge of unlimited possibilities.

Karma Yoga A community class for anyone, but especially for those experiencing financial hardship.

Karma Yoga means the path of union through action; acting without consideration of personal selfish desire. The teachers of this Karma Yoga class will donate their time and expertise, Birchwood Center will donate the space and staff, and all proceeds will be donated to local charities. Karma Yoga teachers are all Certified Yoga Instructors.

Sliding scale fee: $7-$12.

Special $14 Class Parents can take their own class while the kids do Yoga! Same time as Yoga for Kids and during the Yoga for Kids sessions only. Anyone is invited to come at the special discounted price.

Moving Into Restorative begins with an explorative asana practice moving through simple vinyasa sequences, transitions to seated stretches and finally melts into a full 35 minutes of Restorative Yoga. The restorative poses, including savasana, will give the mind and body time to open and reflect, and to receive the benefits of complete relaxation after the active physical practice.

Free Intro to Yoga for new students. If you are curious about Yoga or ready to practice, this class for new students is an ideal opportunity to begin. This free introductory class will explain the stress relieving benefits of Yoga. Students will also experience foundational Yoga postures and breathing techniques.

Yoga 101 - for Every Body A beginner level class for regular practitioners and for those new to yoga. This class teaches the fundamentals of yoga and is open to all ages, shapes and sizes, the flexible and not so flexible; anyone who wants to commit to their own health and well being.
